Women in Power ERG Celebrates Women’s History Month

In the U.S., a year ago, women outnumbered men in the workforce. In December 2020, women accounted for 100% of jobs lost. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, one in four women have considered downshifting their careers or leaving the workforce entirely.

At a critical time for women and in honor of Women's History Month, leaders came together to reflect on the extraordinary accomplishments of women shaping the history of the U.S. and discussed the work that is still needed for the future.

Women in Power, MediaCom’s newest Employee Resource Group hosted their first event in a series of speaking events honoring women in business. It was moderated by Michelle Holmes, Managing Partner at MediaCom and co-founder of Women in Power, and Jessica Wurm, Director of Integrated Planning at MediaCom. The two moderators were joined by phenomenal leaders, Tracy-Ann Lim, Chief Media Officer at JPMorgan Chase, and Lindsay Pattison, Chief Transformation Officer at WPP.

When reflecting on the statistic that women make 30% less than your male neighbor when it's time to retire, Tracy-Ann says, "I hope people walk away from this discussion offended by this statistic and do something in their immediate circle or at their leadership table. This is a problem that will take years to solve, so it has to start now".

These women came together on International Women’s Day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women as well as to discuss the professional development and career advancement of women in the workforce.

During the discussion, they chose to honor the IWD 2021 campaign theme of #ChoosetoChallenge by pledging action and affirmations towards the future. Ultimately, these women hope to call out gender bias and inequality, seek to celebrate women’s achievements year-round, and help create an inclusive world for all.

In addition to speaking events, Women in Power is launching a book club to continue to highlight the accomplishments of women. The first book, A Big Life (in advertising) by Mary Wells Lawrence, and tells the story of the first woman president of an advertising club agency and the first woman CEO of a company on the NYSE.

Women in Power's mission is to provide a community and environment that will encourage, enrich, and equip women with the tools to intentionally pursue and realize their professional and personal ambitions. The ERG believes in creating an inclusive group welcoming women and men who make a safe and engaging community. The collective goal is to provide members with tangible tools via a myriad of exciting platforms that will carry them throughout their personal and professional lives.
