MediaCom invited Sokoki Studios create a mural in the NYC office

Mural 1600

MediaCom invited Sokoki Studios, creators of the WTC murals to create a mural in the NYC office.

The wife and husband duo of Chinón Maria (Colombian American) and Sebastian Mitre (Mexican American) brought their artistic spirit to our offices to create a mural that could be enjoyed by all that pass through the doors. Their large-scale murals advocate for social change, unite and empower communities through the shared language of art.

MediaCom sat down with the dynamic duo to brief them on our history and discussed how we could make the mural speak to our location. Ultimately, we wanted to allow their creativity to shine and made sure to give them the freedom they needed to delight all.

When asked where they pulled from for this mural, Chinón stated “the inspiration for the mural is our muse - New York City. Many times, we think of ‘Gotham’ and lower Manhattan as grey, dark, and masculine, yet the times are changing, and as artists, we want to celebrate lower Manhattan’s vibrancy, diversity, energy, and femininity”.

This piece is part of a series of works that Chinón Maria dedicated to New York City. To provide a reference for the series, she enjoyed diving into archival images of the city and discovering visual stories she wished to retell in her own voice.
