We catch up with Rob Kiefer, an Affiliates exec and former Apprentice of the Year.

What were you doing before coming to MediaCom and starting as an Exec?
Before my role as an exec at MediaCom, I was fortunate enough to have been part of the MediaCom apprentice scheme, and trainee scheme before that.
Did you know anything about Affiliates before starting?
When I started, I had no previous experience in Affiliates, but with the support of the team; learnt on the job!
What has been the best thing about working in Affiliates /Any highlights?
Working in the Affiliates team’s been great, because of our current size; the team’s close and all get on really well. But for me the best part of Affiliates so far has been working in a team that is growing so strongly. Compared to a bigger and more traditional team we have a lot of activity and opportunity for growth and to make an impact.
How do you think this experience will help in your career, going forward?
Working in Affiliates has allowed me to experience work very different to that of the other departments, and the power of efficient performance marketing. Having this as a contrast to more traditional offline media, and brand marketing objectives will aid wider all-round understanding of the marketing mix, and how channels can work more cohesively.
What have you learned working in affiliates?
Through Affiliates I’ve learnt a lot about marketing mixes, seasonality and consumer behaviour to marketing offers. However, I have also learnt more about the technology behind Affiliates, tracking and sale data which is something I had not expected to learn so much about in this role.
Would you recommend it to other execs?
Affiliates is a great team to work in. It adds great knowledge to what I learnt as an apprentice and the varying work and wide range of clients means that the team is very diverse in knowledge and the team stays fresh and exciting.
What is your favourite thing about working at MediaCom in general?
For me personally, MediaCom has been a fantastic place to work and grow. But my favourite aspect of working here is the constant motion of the company. Whether through media firsts, training schemes, employee benefits, mental health awareness, or the awards and accreditations we gain – this company never seems to stay still, in any aspect, and is always pushing us all – and the wider industry – forward.
