With just 49 sleeps to Christmas and much of the UK in some form of lockdown 2.0, advertisers are already working hard to stand out during a festive period like no other!
We are barely past the Halloween weekend, yet some brands have started airing their Christmas ads. This week, we have explored some of the first Christmas 2020 campaigns, and what John Lewis has up its sleeve for this year.
Christmas like no other
John Lewis has been teasing fans about the contents of its highly anticipated Christmas advert for 2020 promising a ‘Christmas campaign like no other’. With an aim to harness the spirit and thoughtfulness brought on by the pandemic, the retail chain has teamed up with two charities – FareShare and Home-Start to provide food, comfort, and advice to vulnerable families this Christmas. The campaign is due to launch in November and will be complemented by their annual Christmas blockbuster.
You can find out more on the drum here, and if you can’t wait here is a reminder of last year’s campaign.
The show must go on
Amazon’s Christmas campaign for 2020 not only focuses on the magic of the festive period but also pays homage to the pandemic we’re living through. Although COVID-19 is a main component in the creative, the focus is primarily on the arts and how much effort is put into that industry by single individuals. The ad is a real reminder of what real art can do and in terms of hitting the mark where Christmas campaigns are concerned, Amazon really did deliver (pun intended!).
If you can’t be there, feel there
Portal from Facebook, a smart camera keeps you in frame as you move, has released a new campaign focusing on how by using their technology we can all feel together at Christmas, even though we might find ourselves apart. The campaign shows football legend, Ian Wright, and his family hanging out together in their separate homes all while still being apart of those special family moments. You can read more on the drum here but if you need some Christmas cheer (let’s face it we all do) you can watch some of their most famous campaigns below.
