Walk the talk

Fifty women here at MediaCom joined the first Walk the Talk session of 2022 to discuss the topic of imposter syndrome.

Walk the Talk is a series of events aiming to provide a safe space for all women from across the agency. All women at different levels of their career, from different teams and backgrounds, come together and discuss their experiences and potential barriers to their success, and how they overcome them and thrive in the industry.

2022’s first session was delivered by MediaCom’s Partnerships, Social and Influencer Marketing Specialist, Bonita Samuels. Bonita defined imposter syndrome as a collection of feelings of inadequacy which persist despite evident success. In line with the findings of a recent study which revealed that 82% of women in the workplace have experienced these feelings, many of the women in the session identified with this definition in their own working lives.

As well as sharing personal experiences, the session generated wonderful contributions with solutions on how women at MediaCom deal with imposter syndrome when it surfaces. These practical tips included saving positive feedback to reflect on when inner thoughts are clouded by self-doubt and negativity, and learning to recognise when these thoughts become pervasive in order to work through them.

As Bonita stated, “it is time for us to show up for ourselves and for each other”.

These sessions continue to inspire and unite the women of MediaCom as a community, providing a network of support for personal and professional challenges. We look forward to more to come throughout the year!
