International Women’s Day 2018 at MediaCom
On 8th March 2018 MediaCom celebrated International Women’s Day in style! For the second year running we hosted a series of panels throughout the day and ended the day with a speed mentoring session.
Staff were greeted first thing with Spotify’s International Women’s Day power playlist blaring in the atrium and cake pops, courtesy of Snapchat.
Throughout the day we had a number of empowering and thought-provoking sessions. The first of the day was on diversity and the lack of it across advertising and marketing campaigns. Hosted by our Joint Managing Director UK, Satin Reid, we were delighted to have Selma Nicholls, CEO and Founder of Looks Like Me; Claire Valoti, General Manager, Snapchat; Sue Unerman, Chief Transformation Officer, MediaCom; and Sam McAllister, Brand Activation Lead, CRUK on the panel. Each panellist spoke passionately about their experiences within the industry and what could be done to improve diversity in advertising.
Next we had a session on the very topical #MeToo. Although understandably a very sensitive topic, this was necessary. Our Head of Diversity, Inclusion and Future Talent, Nancy Lengthorn, hosted this panel which featured speakers from Caroline Noblet, Partner, Squire Patton Boggs, Carina White, New Business Manager, MediaCom and Claire McAlpine, Strategy Director, MediaCom.
In our final panel session we were delighted to welcome Shortlist Media CEO, Ella Dolphin, who presented Stylist Magazine’s #VisibleWoman campaign which runs throughout this year.
We finished off our day of celebrations by hosting our very first speed mentoring session hosted by Karen Blackett OBE, Chairwoman, MediaCom; and Kate Rowlinson, Managing Director EMEA, MediaCom who were both joined by a number of internal staff, as well as Jasmine Dotiwala, Head of Youth Engagement & Media, Media Trust; Cecilia Dominici, Head of Social Media, CRUK; Ella Dolphin, CEO, Shortlist Media; Shivani Uberoi, Senior Finance Manager, Sky and Laura Ramsell, Head of Campaigns, Tesco as mentors. The session was hugely popular and due to the overwhelming positive feedback we received, we now intent to deliver this event more regularly.
Overall, the day was an enormous success, with a great turnout and interest across all sessions, and from all teams and job roles at MediaCom.
