In MediaCom’s Bigger Picture Live conversation, Nancy Lengthorn, Global Chief Inclusion and Culture Officer at MediaCom, Rosie Cook, Global L&D Integration and Metrics Lead at Mars, and Danni Beechey, Associate Director, Global Tech Partnerships at MediaCom, shared one important Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) initiative for brands, agencies and organisations alike to implement to make D&I happen.
MediaCom’s, Nancy Lengthorn, started by discussing the importance of collaboration: “Inclusion should be about starting conversations, teaming up and saving each other time”. Nancy also provided details about the company’s Sponsorship Programme, which she refers to as a “supercharged form of mentoring,” an initiative that goes beyond an entry-level focus and which acknowledges the inequitable systems many marginalised groups experience.
Following on from Nancy, Mars’ Rosie Cook discussed the data-based approach Mars has taken to equal parental leave for Mothers, Fathers and surrogates, plus their company’s desire to have gender-balanced leadership teams by 2025. Rosie further detailed how sharing and re-applying knowledge, education and initiatives is key to reshaping the media industry into a more diverse and inclusive place for people to thrive.
Danni Beechey then talked through MediaCom UK’s 2020 Black History Month activity, including the key steps, challenges, learnings and actions one can take for an authentic event, which requires “being guided by the people who make up the community”.
From showing an openness to listen, celebrate and learn, bolder and braver progress can be made in driving the D&I agenda forward to create long-lasting change.
