We hear from our LGBTQ+ communities and allies across the world who have been celebrating Pride and what it means to them.
Across the world, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ+) Pride Month is celebrated each year in the month of June, to honour the 1969 Stonewall Uprising.
Pride celebrates our diversity – reinforcing the continual need for equality. For Elizabeth Lara in MediaCom México it’s significant. The legislation of gay marriage in her city allowed her to marry her partner last year: "Pride represents the freedom to be with the person you choose, feeling proud of who you are, far from having a label in society."
The role of allies has also been an important factor in all Pride celebrations, as Nicola Jenkins from MediaCom Australia remarks "being an LGBTQ+ ally is about ensuring people feel not only comfortable with, but are empowered to be their whole, beautiful selves". Scot Carlson from MediaCom US adds "coming together during Pride Month ensures the world sees queer people and their allies en-masse."
Different perspectives. Different ways of thinking and doing. We support and encourage our people to bring their difference every day and we stand hand-in-hand with our LGBTQ+ community and others, as we strive to make MediaCom a place where everyone feels empowered to fulfil their potential.
