How salience in OOH affects the bottom line
The cocktail party effect is a well-known behavioural bias, whereby humans ‘selectively attend’ to stimulus they deem familiar or important. Kinetic UK and MediaCom looked into the possibility of its effect for use in out of home advertising. Here’s what they found.

UK pet owners love their animals but despite lavishing them with treats the percentage with pet insurance was stagnant at around 50%. A humorous piece of video was developed and delivered to consumers on Facebook raising awareness of Tesco Bank’s product and generating an increase in sales.

David Shearer
Managing Director
David joined MediaCom Edinburgh as an Account Director over 17 years ago and has been Managing Director for the last 8 years. In that time, the Edinburgh office has expanded to nearly 60 people and become the largest media agency in Scotland. David’s job is to help the team deliver a best-in-class, bespoke service to our clients.
Murray Calder
Strategy Director
Murray leads strategic thinking for MediaCom Edinburgh clients and has worked here for 11 years. He previously held global marketing roles for scotch whisky brands including The Famous Grouse, The Macallan and Highland Park. Murray is a fellow of both the IPA and The Marketing Society.
Gordon Eldrett
Marketing Director
Gordon has worked in media for nearly 20 years having started at Granada in 1998. He joined MediaCom Edinburgh in 2004 and worked on the account management side before moving over to spearhead the agency's new business and marketing in 2010. He has helped the agency achieve double digit growth every year since then.
Elaine Jervis
Board Director
Elaine leads a passionate team delivering connected media solutions designed to drive our clients' business. She's been at MediaCom Edinburgh for 13 years originally starting as a trainee in 2005, becoming Group Account Director in 2010 and joing the board in 2017.
Tony Jervis
Commercial and Trading Director
Tony has responsibility for all aspects Trading and Commercial. His job is to help our people deliver best value for clients and drive innovative commercial opportunities. Tony has 29 years' experience working in media agencies, the last 11 at MediaCom Edinburgh. He was promoted to the board in 2008.
Jane McTaggart
Board Director
Jane has been with MediaCom for 13 years. After joining as a planner/buyer, she now heads up one of the account teams in the Edinburgh office responsible for accounts falling into various sectors such as travel and home. She was made a Board Director in 2017.
