The Client

Following a successful pitch, in Jan 2016 SONY PlayStation appointed Mediacom to handle their collective accounts across the territories. With annual billing of an estimated $400M SONY ranks as MediaCom’s 5th largest client.

SONY PlayStation HQ is in London. They are a fast moving Gaming business that includes software, hardware and an online store. They operate in a highly competitive and evolving category that demands passion, enthusiasm and a genuine interest in the category. With. The ambition of the business is to continue to be the biggest gaming brand post next console generation and maintain our global 1# spot.

Objectives for the role:

The Senior Digital Planner will report to the Digital Director and work alongside an account manager and two digital execs to plan, execute and report on centrally activated campaigns.

Client Management

  • Participate in calls and meetings with clients discussing campaign status, performance and future strategies
  • Support in creation of rationale for a media plan and any optimisation decisions and their outcomes
  • Support in delivery of post-campaign analysis
  • Deliver reconciliation information regarding media delivery

Media Planning

  • Review brief and strategic guidance from the client and with the Director and Manager translate it into an implementational media plan
  • Work with Director/Manager to research audience, media touchpoints and source of growth opportunities
  • Work with Execs to interrogate historic performance data (where available) to optimise the media plan
  • Access key 1st/3rd party data to maximise insight and targeting strategy
  • Work with activation teams to create media plan which contains core KPIs linked to business objectives, with a “test and learn” strategy in place
  • Meet regularly with publishers and digital partners to understand available tactics, e.g. use of data, technology, creative and trading techniques to drive volume and efficiency
  • Understand and apply key tech stack solutions to delivery maximum ROI and sales uplift
  • Share results and updates with local markets to ensure there is no overlap between campaigns


Execution

  • Manage output from media specialists – planning; reporting; insight/analysis
  • Manage reconciliations of delivery across the plan from each media owner/media specialist

Reporting & Optimisation

  • Work with execs, and activation teams to interpret performance data and decide on optimisation opportunities
  • Generate key charts/slides which demonstrate performance, test learnings and next steps
  • Ensure strong commentary that gives insight and action (not just saying what the result/trend is)


Team Management

  • Work with and develop the execs, making sure they understand the targets, media solutions and analysis techniques required to maximise effectiveness of our plans for their clients, and are providing strong media delivery and financial reconciliation
  • Manage the media specialists to ensure they are correctly briefed and supported in their scope of work

Skills:

  • Planning and execution experience of key digital channels: search, social, programmatic and direct
  • Technology experience to maximise digital capabilities to drive ROI (Dynamic creative; re-targeting; DMP/DSP; ad server/site analytics understanding)
  • Analytical skills, to help spot trends and optimisation opportunities
  • Understanding of available planning/targeting data to drive effectiveness and optimisation
  • Creative experience – best practice approach to increasing response and conversion rates
  • Media financial systems to ensure smooth reconciliation and QC of bookings
  • Thorough attention to detail is required
  • A strong communicator with excellent written & verbal English language skills/grammar
  • Strong and well attuned interpersonal skills
  • Perseverance and the ability to challenge clients in a structured and well thought through way
